Hey my beauties!
This month has been extremely busy, every weekend I’ve been booked with clients. I love it! Now with a busy schedule comes ALOT of dirty brushes! Especially when you have so many and you use different brushes for different techniques, they can pile up. As a makeup artist you’re dealing with people’s eyes, skin and mouth it’s very important to keep everything clean and sanitized. I strive to clean my brushes after EACH day, and also in between clients. Always spraying alchohol as I’m cleaning!
For my own personal brushes i clean my foundation brush after 2x uses MAX and my eye brushes maybe after 1 or 2 weeks. I for sure clean my foundation brush the most because thats what tends to hold the most product.
In between clients i need something that will clean, dry instantly and also sanitize my brushes. I LOVE to use Cinema Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner. This dries instantly, leaves my brushes soft and smells like vanilla! All you do is soak the brush for 5-10 seconds, then wipe/swirl away on a paper towel and WOW your brush will be brand new, clean and sanitized ready to glam your next client.
Cleaning your brushes is very important, I know when I was a teenager I didn’t know I had to clean them. EW. I know… Maybe that’s why I had bad skin lol!
Reasons To clean your brushes?
- Bacteria builds up
- Oil from foundation or your skin
- Causes Acne/clogged pores
- Pet Fur
- Just so you aint nasty girl duh!
Brushes can have bacteria from old makeup, causing your pores to get clogged or have bad breakouts. Try to deep clean your brushes 1x a week and use a brush cleanser in between uses. To deep clean my brushes I like to use antibacterial soap with coconut oil, or olive oil. A few drops keeps the brushes moisturized and not feeling all rough!
I used to clean them just by swirling them in my hand but my hands would get dry an irritated and pruney lol. All the craze on the gram were those cleaning gloves from sigma, but those were a little too expensive. I had an extra rubber cup coaster i purchased from walmart that has ridges on it and thats what i use to really get all the built up product out! Hey girl what ever works for you I’m just giving you my tip 😉
My favorite soap to use is a Mexican soap that my mother, and grandma used for EVERYTHING lol. ZOTE it’s a big block I just cut a chunk off and use it for my brushes. I also use Dawn which is what i used today since thats all i had on hand.
My black rubber cup coaster! i love it lol swirl away until all makeup comes out and water runs clear!
Even after cleaning my brushes I still spray 99% alcohol all over my brushes and use it on my makeup to disinfect! I’m a germ freak. It makes me feel better knowing my brushes are clean and I’m keeping my clients safe!
